My work in wood examines land surfaces and the edge that is formed when nature meets man-made. I am interested in earth materials, how they are formed, moved and changed. I am equally interested in man's imprint on earth. I realize that although both forces are distinct, they are also connected. Over time, both seem to accept the other's presence. My work is to interpret the edge where organic and geometric meet. I begin a dialogue between the picture plane and my psyche. I assemble pieces of wood into rhythmic compositions. My structural and spatial work is not based on logic, but an amalgamation of mental images brought forth by my own instinct. |
